Why we don't track our users

Hand-drawn locked notebook

We don't know how many times you opened Focus this week. We don't know which button you hover over most, or how long you paused before writing. And we like it that way.

Privacy by absence

The most private analytics system is the one that doesn't exist. There's no telemetry to leak, no dashboard to breach, no third party quietly collecting on our behalf.

  • No analytics SDKs.
  • No fingerprinting.
  • No "anonymous" usage data that turns out to be less anonymous than promised.

But how do you improve?

The old-fashioned way: we use our own apps every day, and we read every email you send us. It's slower than a funnel chart, and it's honest. When something's broken, you tell us. When something's delightful, you tell us that too.

Your data stays yours, on your device. That's not a setting you have to find — it's the default, and the only option.
